Wayyy late Happy New Year
At least I made it by January…
I recently went on a tour of social networking sites: Facebook, Linkedin, Plaxo, Spock… (I have a MySpace page, but get too much spam and seems to be a place for record labels to hock crappy albums.) It’s pretty amazing. I started doing a blog just to see what you could piece together. In the process, I figured out:
- How to code HTML (very poorly).
- How to Linux (very poorly)
- How to use 3rd party servers
- How to use 3rd party web apps
- Understand what AJAX is and is not
One big thing is that things like Facebook are making personal web-based services easy. Plus Facebook already supports iPhone formats, etc.
It got me to wondering: how am I going to every get everything in one place, so I can update my social networking sites and still maintain my “personal on-line brand”. I’m sure some rocket science startup here in the Valley will come up with something, and then proceed to get bought out by Google for $1.5B.
This was the web in 1996. Sad to say… I do remember it. I wonder what things will look like in 2020.
