What ever happened to?

Shigeru Miyamoto = Mario
John Carmack = Doom / Quake

What ever happened to guys like David Crane?

In the long ago of video gaming (the 1980s), Activision was borne and had an incredible game Pitfall. Before Mario, before Doom, way before Half-Life and Madden football, there were guys that went off to create games because they wanted something different and fun. *GASP* what a concept.

Once again, history repeats itself. The golden age of computer gaming has passed. Much like the movie industry, where I haven’t seen an original idea show itself in years, the gaming industry is stagnant. Governed by corporations more interested in turning a profit than making games, well… games. (For you corporate types, that would mean FUN.)

Xbox360 is great (by the way, doesn’t 360 mean you face the direction you started? Ironic isn’t it?), but where are all the cool new games. Ridge Racer 6 is the best selling title in Japan and Call to Duty 2 is the best selling title in the US. Nice… way to usher in a “revolutionary” (no pun intended) console.

Please Sony do better… I think one of the main reasons the Nintendo DS sells so well and why the next Nintendo console will be popular is because, they simply want to make it fun.

Side note: Sharon just received her nine millionth catalog since the day after Thanksgiving. Okay… I’m exaggerating a bit, but man, every day she gets like 4 or 5 catalogs from the same companies over and over. I think she’s bought just enough to pay for the catalogs they send her.
