Daily Affirmation
Yes… I am a geek.
While running through the book store looking for Thomas the Tank Engine books for Chance, I ran across a d20 System book. For those not in the know, d20 is basically the Pen-and-Paper Role-Playing Game system for Dungeons and Dragons. It’s been through a few iterations. d20 Future is interesting in the fact that it ties together my own personal favorite game from the 80s, Star Frontiers.
It has all of the playable races, as well as technology updates that make things seem less… well… 80s. For example, noting that THIS is currently “The Information Age”. To be followed by “The Fusion Age”, “The Gravity Age” and “The Energy Age”. I almost have the urge to breakout the funky plastic dice.
It’s amazing how much has changed. D&D now offers so much peripheral information by internet. I was so stunned by seeing the book, I had to buy it purely for nostalgia.
The more I read the book, it tries to stretch a bit with the whole “Mecha” thing, just showing how wide pop Sci-Fi really is. This seems a bit better than Hero Game’s Star Hero, but then again, I haven’t bought the latest version this.
