First a Knight Rider movie… then a Transformers movie… and now this.
A short break
Sharon, Chance and I took a vacation to Yosemite. Chance discovered… dust. He spend a lot of time kicking up clouds all over the place. It was unusually relaxing (since most areas didn’t have cell coverage). It took me about a day to get over the fact that I couldn’t be contacted by someone out of the blue or emailed on run.
I did watch most of the World Cup final. The headbutt by Zidane was unexpected. I just can’t over the fact that a bunch of game-fixing crooks won soccer’s biggest prize.
Looks like Klinsmann may be lined up to be the next USA coach. I actually had the chance to meet him once, great guy. He has a great interview on USAToday. He actually was really punished by the German media for “American” training methods. I love the attitude.
- “I think in general people in America approach things in a positive way. Is the glass half-empty or half-full? We sometimes in Germany forget that you can have a glass half-full. That’s what I try to explain what the big difference between American thinking and Germany thinking is. Maybe you should see the glass as half-full. Whatever goal you want to reach, try to go for it.
“I think Americans, they let people do whatever they would like to do. They’re not so curious about what your next-door neighbor is doing. They’re trying to make their own life work.
“In Germany, we have the mentality that you always need to justify yourself whatever you do. Here you don’t need to justify what you do; here you do it. Week by week, they want me to justify: Why do we have an American fitness coach? Why do we have a sports psychologist? Why change from hotels outside the city to hotels downtown? And all that stuff.”
Klinsmann pauses, before adding, “Who cares?”
I love this kind of attitude along with team building. There’s a recent article about adapting Jack Welch’s CEO handbook for the “new” (read: tech) business. Fun read, but probably not that interesting if you don’t live in Silicon Valley.
