This is by far the coolest entry in Wikipedia

Back home

I missed a couple episodes of Smallville and Heroes, but thanks to my handy-dandy computer and software.  I am able to catchup on missed TV as my two ill children are sleeping off their medications.

I have found quite possibly one of the greatest super-hero websites ever.  Dial-B-For-Blog is great for anyone who grew up on classic Superman comics (you know, the ones that your mom’s beauty salon kept around just so you had something to read) or those little Adventure comics digests they used to sell.  The more I start reading people’s blogs, the less I think my childhood was unique.

Asia swing…

Two days in Taiwan, two days in Japan, two days of travel. I’m sitting in the airport blogging from my lovely e61. It’s kind of cool to have a phone that works at the USA, Taiwan and in Japan.

Taiwan and Japan both have 3G service which seems to be a bit faster than the service we have in the states, but having some general form of connectivity is nice.

I haven’t been sleeping well on this trip and feel wayyy jetlagged more than usual. I’ve started Dungeon Siege on the PSP and it holds my interest so far.

Saw:
- Gridiron Gang
- Invincible
- Da Vinci Code
- Little Miss Sunshine

I think my Mandarin is getting better. I can actually understand what food is what.

What’s in a name…

So Apple got sued by Cisco who has the “iPhone” name trademarked (in the USA), but what’s really in a name.

After doing some travelling, especially to Japan, you start to see some funny linguistic quirks.

- the long “e” sound like in “email” means good in Japanese.  For us, it’s electronic.
- the long “i” sound like in “iPod” means love in Japanese and Chinese.  For us, it’s Internet or Interactive.
I’m sure there are a few others, but it definitely makes you think about things like email being good and loving your iPod.  Now many are lusting for their next phone.

Back from the Chaos

CES seems to get busier and busier every year.

For the first time in 4 years, I have escaped booth teardown duty.  However, this time,

- Best thingie: SanDisk Sansa Connect - Like the Zune, except smaller and well-thought out.

- Biggest announcement: Apple iPhone.  Yes, I realize it wasn’t at the show, but EVERYONE was talking about it on Tuesday

- Most unlikely popular display: OLPC.  A cheap looking green and white computer that everyone wanted to see.

I really didn’t have much time to run the show floor, but from many of the people I talked to there wasn’t much new this year (much like last year).

I must be getting old… This was really the first show that I didn’t really care about what people were showing.

Happy (Belated) New Year

Here comes CES.
