2020-21 CoVid-19 SiP Activities
Our city (Newark, CA) is in Alameda county and my workplace is in San Mateo (San Mateo County). As of the middle of March 2020, we went into a shelter-in-place order.
This is the update as of July 2021 (Go Team Vaccine!)
I've put a link to my photo blog of this whole ordeal as well.
Binge watched (with my kids)
Black Widow (Disney+)
The Winning Season (Amazon Prime)
Another loser turned girls basketball coach who fixes his relationship with his daughter and becomes a better person
The Rocker (Amazon Prime)
Kind of C-movie version of McFarland. Football guy gets hurt, runs XC instead. Team wins state at the end.
Farewell, My Dear Cramer (Crunchyroll)
Girls Soccer anime based on a manga series that is just now coming out in English
Loki (Disney Plus)
The Falcon and Winter Soldier (Disney Plus)
Big Shot (Disney Plus)
John Stamos as a D-1 basketball coach who was suspended (a la Hoosiers) and coaches high school girls basketball.
Justice League (cartoon) (HBO Max)
Another classic.
Young Justice (HBO Max)
Watched with Kara. Good early teen series
Kuroko no Basket (Kuroko's Basketball) - Crunchyroll
Basketball anime. Not as realistic as Ahiru no Sora, not as fun as Slam Dunk. Still pretty good
Run with the Wind (Crunchyroll)
Running anime. Surprisingly good. Enjoyable since my son is a runner.
Days (Crunchyroll)
Soccer anime. Centered around a kid who just starts soccer in high school.
Haikyu (NetFlix, Crunchyroll)
Volleyball anime. Best sports anime since Slam Dunk.
Ahiru no Sora (NetFlix)
Basketball anime. Best basketball anime since Slam Dunk. Do kids in Japanese basketball still wear baggy shorts?
Picard (CBS All Access)
Not a bad serial. TNG cast looks old in this one. I'm getting the same feeling as with "The Expanse" started well, but tailed off.
The King's Avatar (NetFlix)
Chinese serial based on a Chinese anime series about pro gamers. Enjoyable. Much like the CW's DC series, they are as much TV / young adult drama as they are about the gaming aspect.
Avatar: The Last Airbender (NetFlix)
A classic. Maybe the definitive American animation series. Watched with my kids and it's definitely timeless.
Avatar: The Legend of Korra (CBS All Access)
My kids are now 16 and 13, and they got this series. They wouldn't have been able to get it a few years ago. It's a nice growing up series.
Watched on my own
Rerun movies (Amazon Prime)
Hoosiers
Blue Chips
The Program
Robot Jox
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
The Winning Season
Expanse (Amazon Prime) Season 4 and 5
The History of Time Travel (Amazon Prime)
Primer is better, but this one was entertaining
This is Football (Amazon Prime)
The Tick (Amazon Prime) Seasons 1 and 2
Invincible (Amazon Prime)
Love Robots + Death Season 2 (Netflix)
Castlevania (Netflix) Season 3
Pacific Rim: The Black (Netflix)
Not that Pacific Rim already didn't start in jump the shark territory, but this one kind of just pushes it a little further.
Star Trek: Lower Decks (CBS All Access)
Thought this would be funnier...
Star Trek: Discovery Season 3 (CBS All Access)
Time Travel! It's Discovery, which is better space opera than the other series.
Start-Up (Netflix)
K-drama. Watched this while on the my new treadmill. Typical drama stuff but with some fun start-uppy language.
Wandavision (Disney+)
Started slow.... picked up after Ep 3. Agent Woo should get his own series.
Video Games:
Paranoia (Epic Game Store)
Had high hopes. Very generic template RPG.
Civilization VI (Epic Game Store)
Best Civ since Civ III.
Into the Breach (Steam)
From the makers of FTL (great game), is a kaiju fighting turn-based simulator.
Had higher hopes for this one.
Star Crawlers (Epic Game Store)
Better than I expected.
Wizardry-ish, sci-fi RPG crawler. Pre-fabbed characters (which was disappointing), but a decent story and some free play.
Oculus Quest
In May, I got an Oculus Quest...
Google Earth is maybe the best application for it.
I tried using it with Oculus Desktop and Steam VR. I have some weird performance issue with SteamVR, so I'm holding off on HL:Alyx for a bit.
Elite Dangerous (Steam)
I'm actually thinking about going back to No Man's Sky after playing this
Super open. Difficult to control. I'm trying like hell to not get into combat while playing.
Could really use a story line.
Rebel Galaxy Outlaw (Epic Game Store)
Space shooter. Easier to control than Elite Dangerous
The Last of Us Part II (PS4) - Finished
I enjoyed it. I understand why people are upset. It was a good sequel.
Battletech (Steam)
I played the first couple of missions
EverSpace (Steam)
Ghost of Tsushima (PS4)
Platinumed this. Great Game
Finished this
Baldur's Gate 3 - Early Access (Steam)
I really want to like this... I mean really want to like this... I hate early access games
Wasteland 3 (GOG)
Enjoyable. RPG-style game. Seems a little unbalanced.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales (PS5)
Finished this one. Also a very good game.
No Man's Sky
After launch went back to this. Much more enjoyable now. So many different resource / play styles
Days Gone
Plays much better on PS5. After the first few hours of grinding, the story actually becomes pretty good.
Finished this one.
Star Wars - Fallen Order
Plays much better on PS5. Not as fulfilling as I would have hoped
Finished
Cyberpunk 2077
Played on PS5. Ok game. Middle of the road first person RPG.
Finished this.
Returnal
On PS5. Surprisingly fun.
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart
On PS5. Some of the cut scenes are amazingly good quality - like animation cinematic. More fun that I was expecting.
Mass Effect Remastered on PS5
Started ME1... again... forgot how bad the controls were, but the game without spending minutes per session in an elevator is awesome.
A Plague Tale
On the list of things to play.
